Stainless steel brackets and wires. The most versatile appliance in orthodontics, and still the most precise for complex movements.
What it is
Metal braces use stainless steel bands, brackets and wires to gently shift your teeth over time. A bracket is bonded to each tooth, then a thin, flexible archwire is placed over the brackets. Tiny elastic bands called ligatures keep the wire firmly in place.
At each appointment the wire is changed or adjusted, moving the teeth a controlled amount toward their planned position.
